Student Arrested For Trespassing At Own Graduation
Maquisha Cosey Was Class Vice President
(CBS)
CALUMET CITY, Ill.
Graduation day for a Calumet City high school senior was a disaster.
Maquisha Cosey, 18, the vice president of the Class of 2006 at Thornton Fractional North, was being fingerprinted and photographed by police instead of walking with her class.
Cosey was apparently late to the ceremony by two minutes and was refused entry after the doors were locked. She was supposed to lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
A parent later snuck Cosey in. For that, the principal of the school ordered Cosey arrested for criminal trespassing. She was also charged with disorderly conduct.
School officials say the young woman yelled and caused a disturbance after someone finally let her into the gym for the commencement ceremony. But Cosey says that's just not her character and she never had a discipline problem in high school.
The superintendent of Calumet City schools plans to meet with the school staff on Monday to sort everything out.
