MUSIC BITS: Pharrell vs. Elton’s man; J.Lo’s surprise gig; Q’s daughter dishes; Ciara steps up; Jay-Z’s afterparty;
(June 28, 2006)
*Pharrell Williams had to apologize to Elton John’s husband David Furnish after his bodyguard tried to toss the Brit from a VIP lounge so he could cram more women into the area. Furnish, in Milan for the city’s annual Fashion Week, was at a GQ magazine party with actor Rupert Everett and designer Christopher Bailey when Pharrell’s security guard began to flex. Everett was allowed to stay, but Furnish was asked to get going. When Williams discovered what had happened, he was reportedly mortified and apologized to a forgiving Furnish, who said, "Pharrell was totally unaware. It all came from a security guard. Pharrell said he felt awful." *Jennifer Lopez surprised revelers Sunday at New York City's Gay Pride festivities with a performance at the Dance on the Pier bash. Flanked by dancers from her upcoming MTV reality show “Moves,” the singer/actress wore a shirt exposing her six-pack abs – which put to rest any remaining rumors that she is pregnant. “Moves,” meanwhile, is scheduled to debut on MTV in the fall. *Rashida Jones, the 30-year-old daughter of veteran producer Quincy Jones, told a funny story about her older sister Kidada, 32, to someone who turned out to be one of those infamous “sources” for the New York Daily News’ Lowdown column. Rashida told the spy: "Kidada recently got a free leather softener from Coach, which she thought she was supposed to use on her face as a moisturizer. Kidada used it and complained to me that it was too oily. After a while, she finally figured out it was for leather." *Ciara, Kelis, Chris Brown and Yung Joc are among the artists appearing on the soundtrack to “Step Up,” a romantic drama due in theaters Aug. 11. The album drops three days earlier via Jive and is led by the first single “Get Up,” by Ciara featuring Chamillionaire. Other new songs on the disc include Kelis' "80's Joint," Anthony Hamilton's "Dear Life," Youngbloodz's "Imma Shine" and Petey Pablo's "Show Me The Money." The title track is performed by newcomer Samantha Jade and produced by Wyclef Jean. The film includes R&B singer Mario and rapper Heavy D in the story of a budding relationship between young Baltimore rebel Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) and ballet dancer Nora (Jenna Dewan). *The after party for Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt 10th anniversary show was held at the Rainbow Room, right across the street from New York's Radio City Music Hall where the historic concert took place Sunday night. In the house were his girlfriend Beyonce, plus fellow performer Foxy Brown, Alicia Keys, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Tucker, Jadakiss and Irv Gotti, reports MTV. The DJ spun a mix of new-jack swing tunes, including Guy's "I Like," Bell Biv DeVoe's "Poison" and early Michael Jackson and Prince hits. Before the show, Hov spoke about his boycott of Cristal Champagne to the New York Daily News, stating his stand has influenced other hip hop artists to follow suit. "We all won,” he said of the boycott. "If someone don't want our business, we will take it somewhere else."
