Live in Toronto on a Saturday night, Chris Cornell is to play a small club called The Phoenix. Tickets had sold out in seconds. There are scalpers selling tickets for a fortune to fans that can not miss this show. People line up to the venue three hours before the doors even open. This is a big deal as Toronto gets a night with one of rocks biggest icons. It’s obvious for the people that are lucky enough to get in that they are in for quite the treat.

The concert is billed as “An Evening With Chris Cornell”, and with no opening bands and being very prompt, Chris Cornell and his new live band hit the stage an hour after doors open.

And BOOM! Wasting no time, they start the show with a Soundgarden favourite, “Spoonman”. Fans love it and will soon be in awe with the amount of Soundgarden and older material that he is about to play. Next Chris gets the crowd to clap and then plays Audioslave’s “Original Fire”. The Audioslave songs that they play are not the same without Tom Morello’s signature sound but with the show being a 19 + event, not many people came to hear Audioslave material. After playing his new song, “No Such Thing” which pleased the crowd and sounded similar to some of his work on Euphoria Morning, Chris talks about a song that he is going to play next and says he has not played it live in over ten years. And then as the band play the first few notes, the audience goes into a frenzy as they recognize “Say Hello 2 Heaven” from the Temple Of The Dog album. Fans are screaming Andrew Wood’s name and Mother Love Bone in tribute and hollering that Wood will live on forever.

As if the small club hadn’t gone absolutely nuts at this point, the excitement continued all night as with the exception of only two more Audioslave songs, he played a lot of Soundgarden, Temple Of The Dog, A new song that sounded great, and he even played “Seasons” from the legendary 90’s soundtrack, “Singles”.

Refusing to leave until they hear more, the crowd chants “Cornell!” and the band comes out to play an encore with “Black Hole Sun”, and Chris’ unique version of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean”.

Coming out of the concert exhausted and covered in sweat, people agreed that they just witnessed one of the best concerts of their lives.
