LOS ANGELES, Nov. 18 (UPI) --
Singer Chris Brown says he would love to be as successful as iconic pop star Michael Jackson, but reminds his fans he is new to the U.S. music industry.
Whether the rising music sensation is making a public appearance at Los Angeles schools or appearing on the MTV Video Music Awards, comparisons between him and the King of Pop are soon to follow, Newsweek said in its Nov. 26 issue.
"Of course I think the comparisons are great and flattering," the 18-year-old singer said of being compared to Jackson.
"Nowadays, we don't have a Michael like we did back in the day, or a James Brown, or an Elvis; artists people really go crazy for," Brown said. "I'd love to turn into that, but I only just started."
The "Gimmie That" star's apparent modesty may come from his relationship with his mother, who still lives near the emerging talent and reminds him of his youth on a constant basis.
"Like all moms, she's, like, 'I don't want my little baby to grow up,'" Brown told Newsweek of their relationship. "It's, like, 'Mom! Whatever.'"© 2007 United Press International. All Rights Reserved.
