The album, out on Equal Vision Records, is a strong record that exemplifies the sound that Chiodos is after. The band doesn't really fit into a genre because their music is so unpredictable and, at times, hard to follow. Although the recording of the album is not top quality, and it seems as if the mixing was a bit rushed - unexpected for such a successful indie label such as Equal Vision - the disc still delivers a good performance from the band and the songs are heavy, catchy and interesting.
Unfortunately, Chiodos' singer Craig Owens suffered from a collapsed lung some time ago. Although he has recovered, the band recently cancelled the remainder of their upcoming shows on their current tour with Between the Buried and Me because Craig suffered from trouble breathing. However, I was lucky enough to catch one of the final performances on this tour before they dropped off due to Craig's injury. The band performed a killer show at Starlight Ballroom. Although they did not fit perfectly into the puzzle of a line-up that included The Number Twelve Looks Like You, One Dead Three Wounded, and August Burns Red, the band pleased the crowd with a strong eight-song performance.
Once the band finished their set, I caught up with their lead singer, Craig.
The Triangle: Are you all from Michigan?
Craig Owens: Four of us are from the same hometown and went to the same high school together. Two of the guys are actually from Texas.
s: What's been your favorite part of this tour so far?
CO: Just the bands. There's so much talent on stage and off. They're just a bunch of nice dudes and there's just tons of musicianship on this tour. We're definitely the lightest band on the tour and we know that, but that doesn't stop us from going out and having a good time. It's just an awesome tour with awesome musicians to watch every night.
