A block party Shawsheen's line clears the way to victory
By MIKE ANGIUONI, Sun Correspondent

BILLERICA - The Shawsheen Tech football team launched a ground attack against Georgetown yesterday afternoon that its rival from the CAC Lower Division had no answer for, and the Rams rolled up 341 rushing yards in a 32-14 CAC crossover victory at Samuel J. Cassidy Field.

Shawsheen had two players rush for over 100 yards, with senior Pat Fullerton running for 197 yards and 2 touchdowns on 17 carries while freshman Chris Clark ran 21 times for 111 yards after taking over for an injured Fullerton in the third quarter.

Shawsheen led 19-7 at the half and extended its lead just 2 plays into the second half on a brilliant 67 yard touchdown run by Fullerton.

Although Georgetown would close to within 25-14 with a 7-play, 60-yard drive of its own on its first possession of the half, the Rams ended any drama with a time consuming 13-play, 63-yard march that carried from late in the third quarter until midway through the fourth.

Capping the drive was Clark's second score of the game on a 2-yard run to account for the 32-14 final.

The win improved the Rams record on the season to 2-1, while the Royals fell to 2-1.

"I thought our offensive line picked up right where they left off in the second half of our last game," Shawsheen head coach Al Costabile said. "They established the line of scrimmage and our backs all did a great job."

Shawsheen actually mixed the run and pass very well at the outset of the game, taking over at the Georgetown 36 yard line

and taking advantage of the great field position 9 plays later when Joe Gore hit Joe Killion with a 9-yard touchdown pass for the first score of the game with 6:30 left in the first quarter. Gore was 4-for-4 for 23 yards on the drive.

The Rams would miss the first of two straight extra point attempts and lead 6-0.

After a three-and-out by Georgetown the Rams added to their lead on a 9-play, 58-yard drive that Fullerton capped with his first score of the game on a 13 yard run, plowing over several would-be tacklers on his way to the end zone.

After a Georgetown score, the Rams responded with a 63 yard drive to add to their lead before the end of the half.

On a drive which featured a key 20 yard completion from Gore to Shawn Pimentel and a pair of nice runs by Fullerton, including a 23 yarder that brought the ball to the 2 yard line, Clark finished the job with a touchdown dive.

Clark, who now has 6 touchdowns on the season, had amassed 19 yards rushing before Fullerton went out with a neck injury midway through the third quarter. He then piled up over 100 yards over the next quarter and a half.
