Mother Files Claim After Foster Home Death

JUNEAU, Wis. -- The mother of a young boy who died in foster care has filed a claim in Dodge County.

Ashley Mundt said that the county's social services failed to protect her 3-year-old son, Camron Gardner, who died, and her younger son, Ethan Schwartz, who was injured.

The children were placed in the home of Shane and Jessica Marquardt.

Shane Marquardt is accused of punching both children in the stomach at his Waupun home last May. He's charged with reckless homicide and reckless injury.

Mundt's claim alleges that child welfare officials didn't do a thorough check on the foster home before approving a license.

The claim will be brought before the Dodge County Board, which is often a precursor to a lawsuit.
