Lord Jamar hails from legendary underground hip-hop unit Brand Nubian, considered one of the most controversial groups of the '90s due to inflammatory songs such as Wake Up (banned by MTV for its portrayal of white people as devils). With verses dropped by RZA, Raekwon, Papa Wu, Prodigal Sun and more (including Brand Nubian's Sadat X and Grand Puba), and production contributions by Wu protégés Bronze Nazareth and Preservation, Jamar's solo debut is a vintage East Coast conceptual album, mercilessly preaching his personal recipe for emancipation over classic sped-up jazz sample type beats. Baby Grande continue to represent the realness. The Corner, The Streets is an instant underground gem: "Remnants of her former self catch a trick's eye/ She sucks anonymous dick and then gets high/ She on the block 'til the wee hours/ And I wouldn't fuck with her even if she took three showers."
