'Bowling for Soup' is a pop-punk band based in Denton, Texas (but originally from Wichita Falls, Texas) formed in 1994, best known for their singles "Girl All The Bad Guys Want" in 2002 on Drunk Enough to Dance which was nominated for a 2003 Grammy Award for "Best Pop Performance by a Group or Duo" and "1985" (written in conjunction with Mitch Allen of SR-71) in 2004 on A Hangover You Don't Deserve. The band's name is derived from comedian Steve Martin's "Bowling for Shit" routine from his 1978 comedy album, Wild and Crazy Guy.
The band members are lead guitar/vocals Jaret Reddick, guitar/vocals Chris Burney, bassist/vocals Erik Chandler, and drummer Gary Wiseman.
Their recent hits "1985" and "Almost", already appealing to a wide variety of audiences at radio, are surprisingly popular with the pre-teen crowd, which has caused versions of these songs with "PG" lyrics to be played on Radio Disney.
A new album is planned for release in 2006.
