'The Black Maria' is an emo rock band from Canada.
Band members include vocalist Chris Gray, guitarists Kyle Bishop and Alan Nacinovic, keyboard and bassist Mike De Eyre, and new-joining drummer Theo McKibbon. Their debut album Lead Us To Reason was released on January 25, 2005.
The Black Maria is winner of Yahoo! Music's "Who's Next?" at LAUNCHcast. Each member of the band has a long history of music in their lives before forming the band. Kyle Bishop was part of the band Grade before they broke up, forming The Black Maria in 2002. The band was named after the notorious vans of the early 20th Century.
Their first show was in Toronto in 2003. The band has played with Queens of the Stone Age, MxPx, The Distillers, and Ted Leo & the Pharmacists. Their album was recorded and produced by Victory Records. The cover artwork on Lead Us To Reason was done by Matt Mahurin.
As of the fall of 2005, The Black Maria is on tour with Chevelle and Taproot (band).
