HIGH Street sales may be in the doldrums - but women are still splashing out a fortune on handbags and other accessories.
A new study shows sales of bags, belts, beads and bangles have soared by £2.5billion, an increase of more than 10 per cent.
That compares with a rise across the retail sector of just 1.5 per cent, the lowest in 40 years.
Market analyst Verdict said: "The designer handbag has become a coveted of fashion item."
