Architecture In Helsinki Information

|
'Architecture in Helsinki' is an avant-garde Australian musical ensemble, influenced by the twee pop aesthetic. The group, based in Fitzroy, Melbourne, consists of Cameron Bird, James Cecil, Gus Franklin, Isobel Knowles, Jamie Mildren, Sam Perry, Tara Shackell, and Kellie Sutherland. Its range of instruments is similar to that used in Australian high school bands, notably including brass instruments and recorders. The band's musical arsenal is even bigger than its roster, featuring instruments as diverse as analog synthesizers and samplers, the glockenspiel, tuba, clarinet, oboe and recorder along with the more typical drums, bass, and guitar. Architecture in Helsinki began playing in 2000, crafting a mix of indie, electronic and pop that they recorded and have performed live widely, including multiple national and international tours. The band began recording their debut album, Fingers Crossed, in 2002 in a variety of places ranging from beach houses to proper studios. Bar None released the album in the spring of 2003. This was followed up by the 2005 album In Case We Die, recorded on their own label, Tailem Bend. Architecture in Helsinki has had no chart success to date, but has gotten very wide airplay on the Australia-wide Triple J radio network.
