Anberlin, a band out of Florida, have hit the ground running in their new tour with Tooth and Nail records. Anberlin made a stop at the Webster Theater in Hartford Tuesday with Emery, Far-Less and the Fold.
The band spent their first few numbers jumping around the stage, quickly engaging the crowd. The energy that they exude on stage is similar to the energy that lead singer Stephen Christian shows for his band and for helping others.
Christian didn't always know that music was what he wanted to do. His family is musically inclined, but he said that his progression from local bands to the success of Anberlin has been more of a gradual progression.
"It became a passion of mine a few years ago," he said in a phone interview. "When you decide to follow your dreams the whole world falls into place to help you along."
That is exactly what happened for Anberlin. The band found success in Tooth and Nail records. They released their album "Never Take Friendship Personal" in 2005, and "Blueprints for the Black Market" in 2003. Since then the band has had the opportunity to record and tour, something Christian really enjoys.
"We get to meet new people everyday," Christian said. "I feel like the whole world lives vicariously through me."
The band has been touring for two weeks and he says this is one of the top three tours of all time for him. He said this time much of the audience is there for Anberlin and are actively involved in cheering them on.
"Drugs, sex, rock and roll, you name it, there is nothing better than having people listen to your music," he said.
Fans are what make performing fun, he said.
"The best thing about touring honestly is about the time on stage," Christian said. "I want to put on a show that I would go to see."
On this tour especially he has found that people are really beginning to identify with Anberlin's music. At the show the night before the phone interview a young woman handed him a seven-page paper that she had written to him about how Anberlin had changed her life. He said that even though he doesn't feel as though the band is in the spotlight it is amazing to know that the band has had a positive impact on peoples' lives.
