'Alejandro Sanz', born 'Alejandro Sánchez Pizarro' on December 18 1968 in Madrid, Spain, is a Spanish pop/ballad musician. The second son of Maréa Pizarro Medina from Alcalá de los Gazules, and Jesús Sánchez Madero from Algeciras, Sanz began playing guitar at the age of seven and composing his first songs three years later. After moving to Moratalaz from the neighborhood of Pueblo Nuevo at age 16, he began attenting management classes. At the same time, he recorded his first album. Music Career In 1991, Sanz released his official major label debut, Viviendo Deprisa, with Warner Brothers, becoming a well-known singer in Spain thanks to his hit Pisando fuerte. The album sold a million copies and made Sanz a star in his homeland. He released Si Tu Me Miras in 1993, with contributions from Nacho Maño, Chris Cameron, and Paco de Lucéa. He recorded 3 in Venice, Italy. His next album, Más (1997), launched him internationally, with famous singles such as Corazón partéo and Amiga méa. It also became the best selling record of all time in Spain, with almost 3 million copies sold. The record was in the Album Chart for 77 weeks, including 26 at Number One. he won the World Music Award for Best Selling spanish Artist in 1999 in Montecarlo. In 2001 he released El Alma Al Aire which broke into the Billboard Hot 200 in the United States for the second time, as Más had done before. His 2003 album No Es Lo Mismo won a 2004 Grammy Award for best Latin Pop Album, after selling two million copies in two months following its release. In 2005, the song "La Tortura" was displayed to the public, a duet by Sanz and Colombian songstress, Shakira. In the last decade, Sanz has been a major force in Latin music, scoring many hits and selling well over 20 million albums during his entire career. Trivia He has the bull head from Pablo Picasso's Guernica tattooed on his left arm. He has won 14 Grammy Awards (1 Regular Grammy Award and 13 Latin Grammy Awards).
